GirlGuidesCANblog Celebration of 100th Post

Yesterday, we came to realize that we would be posting our 100th GirlGuidesCANblog post today! That’s quite an accomplishment.

The blog has seen amazing growth thanks to our ‘wordsmithing’ Guest bloggers – from Guiders to volunteers, parents to girls! So how could we commemorate this achievement beyond the beautiful blog banner we made just for this occasion?

Well, the post scheduled for today was a social media education serial piece about the benefits of using Twitter. And since I love twitter (just ask anyone), I toyed with the thematic idea of writing ‘100 Reasons How We Could Use Twitter to Foster Girl Greatness’. I quickly shelved that idea since I would likely get stuck at reason #78! Then I thought – what if all of you, our blog subscribers, Facebook fans, and Twitter followers could do that collectively? While we are not all avid ‘tweeps’ or ‘twitterites’, many of us are online daily and do network, share and post information on a regular basis. So how hard would it be for us to collectively reach 100 reasons how twitter (or social media for that matter) could help us achieve Girl Greatness?

Could we make this one small step for Guiding into one large step for Girl Greatness online?

Here’s my two cents worth, I hope it helps to get the comments going:

#1. Twitter enables me to follow conversations that promote issues about girls and women.

What’s your reason?

  1. #1. Twitter enables me to follow conversations that promote issues about girls and women.

  2. Social media helps me feel connected to Guiding outside of my unit/district/area/province. I know what is happening across Canada and around the World. I see our members achieving greatness every day!

Twitter use #19 for achieving Girl Greatness: Tweet to recognize volunteers!
(Note: I arbitrarily chose #19 as it’s my jersey # in Ringette and Hockey!)

  4. Heather says:

Twitter helps me learn about new Guiding stuff quickly & allows me to pass along right away. Sometimes I know about events, activities, initiatives well before my DC & AC

  5. Alison says:

Twitter helps me to know what is going on to girls and women around the globe as it happens. I feel connected and part of a modern movement; cyber powered with limitless reinforcements.

  6. Laura says:

Social media allows me to find great websites connecting to an intrest badges or challenges. It allows me to find out about local, area, provincial, national and international camps happening around the globe. It allows me to read these blog posts every day via my email. Through social media I am able to learn about ongoing causes that effect girls and women. Social media helps me achieve girl greatness!

I was so excited to see this I needed to go and scan in a photo of me in my guide outfit. I want to share this on twitter with my friends and fellow guides! The photo was taken when I was in India and visited a guide meeting there with my cousin.
