February is a time to honour Black excellence and celebrate the history, culture and lasting contributions of Black communities across Canada.
At Girl Guides, we’re committed to fostering diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility by amplifying the voices and stories of Black girls, youth and women. Creating safe spaces for meaningful conversations empowers change and inspires action to build a more inclusive and equitable Guiding community and world.
This year, we’re launching exciting new Girl Guide program activities to explore Black history in your unit. These include the Black History Career Match (for Sparks to Guides), Celebrating Black Musicians (for Pathfinders and Rangers) and the Black History Role Model Match (for Embers and Guides). Explore all Black history activities on the Program Platform.
Black History Month invites us to reflect on the past, deepen our understanding and take meaningful steps toward positive change. Below are some resources GGC’s DEIA team gathered to guide you:
- Learn more about Canada’s contribution to the United Nations International Decade for People of African Decent
- Learn about Black-led organizations in your area
- Read through the Anti-Racism Resources for support
