Girl Scouts of Japan donation drive for the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan

13 March 2011

Dear Girl Scout and Girl Guide sisters;

Thank you very much for all your warm messages and prayers for people of Japan who are affected by earthquakes and the tsunami which happened on 11 March 2011. The bond among Girl Scouts and Girl Guides are really encouraging and very much appreciated.

The Headquarters of Girl Scouts of Japan is located in Tokyo where we are still sensing aftershocks, but all the Board members and the staff are fine and able to function as usual.

However, we are still unable to ascertain the safety of our members in the seriously affected area (including Miyagi, Fukushima, Iwate and Ibaraki). The whole impact of the disaster is overwhelming and we are still trying to figure out what is needed and what we can do as Girl Scout. As soon as we get hold of the situation, we will post updates and ask for the necessary support.

I am hoping that all the Girl Scouts in Japan get united to gather courage to face this difficult situation.

With sincere gratitude for all your support and encouragement,

Teruko WADA,

President, Girl Scouts of Japan
