This is actually a slightly painful post for me to write. I tend to write about my own experiences, and this is certainly one that I have to own. A few weeks ago, I cut my hair. I had grown my hair for about 2-1/2 years, so that when I went to cut it, it would be long enough that I would be able to donate it (10 inches or more). The last time I had done this was 2-1/2 years ago, when I mailed my hair to an organization that makes wigs for children with cancer – a noble cause indeed.
So, imagine my confusion when last Friday my husband showed me this photo on his phone:
I was puzzled. We got a dog in January, and he occasionally got into things, but almost never while we are out. What animal could he have mauled to gain this result? Was something stuffed with this strange material? And then it hit me – it was my hair. In order to be donated, the hair needs to be in a braid, which it was – I had it on the counter, in a zip lock bag. It was minding its own business, not hurting anyone. It was simply waiting for me to mail it but the dog beat me to it. I had to throw it out instead, and that hurt.
I’m sure we’ve all been affected by procrastination. Whether it’s interest fees on a bill, spoiled food in the fridge, or a missed opportunity, putting something off comes with a cost.
So, if I could encourage you to knock something off your to-do list today, then this experience will not be for naught. What will you stop putting off today?
