This is what a female mentor looks like

We’ll admit it – Guiding wouldn’t exist without the amazing Guiders who put so much time and energy into creating great experiences for girls. Take 23-year-old Jessica Reid – she’s not only a full-time student at McGill University, but also a Guider with both the Valois Dorval Pathfinders and Rangers in Quebec. Oh yeah, and she’s also a Girl Guides of Canada scholarship winner.  Yeah, we’re pretty sure you’ll find her pretty intriguing, too.

The three most important things you should know about me are….

• I am a McGill University student graduating this spring in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language).
• I am currently teaching in Hong Kong and may very well want to spend the rest of my life teaching abroad.
• I am a Girl Guide nut.

The most fun I ever had in Guiding was…

…going to Camp Wa-Thik-Ane in the summer. I met new friends, did things I never would have been able to on my own and got to spend a week with other girls who had the same interests as me.

The greatest risk I ever took was…

…moving out on my own at 16 and making it.

The goals I have include…

• Graduating in April and starting my career as an ESL teacher.
• Teaching around the world working with volunteer organizations in as many countries as I can get to.
• Perfecting my Spanish.

As a twentysomething young woman, Guiding is the place for me because….

I’ve been in Guiding my whole life and there is no other place for me. I love working with the girls and where else do you get to sing songs and play games and go camping with any frequency? Being a teacher this also gives me excellent ideas for my classroom and experience working with young people.

My girls are committed to Guiding and that’s what I love about them. I took a group of Pathfinders and Rangers to Guiding Mosaic national camp this past summer and it was amazing. They impressed me every step of the way with their behaviour, preparedness and flexibility. They are wonderful young women and I miss them so much being in Hong Kong for three months!
